Two Public Forums Scheduled to Discuss Short-Term Vacation Rentals in Cathedral City

The City of Cathedral City will hold two public forums on Short-Term Vacation Rentals (STVR) in order to receive additional feedback and information from the public on this important topic. The public is encouraged to attend and provide their perspective. The two forums are:

1. Tuesday, October 1, 2019
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Cathedral City Public Library
33520 Date Palm Drive

2. Saturday, October 19, 2019
10:00 am to 12:00 (noon)
City Hall
Study Session Room (1st Floor)
68-700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero

At their July 24th council meeting, the city council extended the short-term vacation rental (STVR) moratorium for an indefinite period of time to allow for the STVR Task Force to meet, review, and make recommendations to the council on how best to solve current issues and enhance enforcement. The STVR Task Force is made up of city staff, STVR homeowners, property managers, and neighbors of STVR properties.

The council made three exceptions to the new STVR moratorium including:

• Existing STVRs can continue to operate.
• Existing annual STVR renewals will continue.
• New applications for STVRs will continue in neighborhoods governed by homeowner associations (HOAs) or covenants, conditions, and restrictions (CCRs) that specifically permit STVRs.

Current STVR properties can continue to operate under the moratorium; however, if the property is sold or a change in ownership occurs, then the STVR license ends as well until the moratorium is lifted. Any property owner that operates an unregistered STVR and violates the moratorium will face a fine of up to $5,000.
